Frequently Asked Questions

  • Hylenex® is an injectable form of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid (HA) dermal filler. It can be used to reduce or remove unwanted HA filler, allowing the treated area to gradually return toward its natural appearance.

  • Hylenex® may be recommended when filler has resulted in unwanted fullness, lumps or bumps, asymmetry, migration, or simply no longer fits your aesthetic goals. It may also be an option for patients who want to dissolve HA filler placed by another provider.

  • Hyaluronidase begins breaking down HA filler relatively quickly, although the timeline for visible improvement varies depending on the amount and type of filler, the treatment area, and individual factors. Your provider will assess the area and determine whether additional treatment is needed.

  • Some patients achieve their desired result after one treatment, while others may require additional sessions. This depends on the amount and location of filler being dissolved and how the area responds to treatment.

  • You may experience some brief stinging, pressure, or warmth during the injection. At VIVO, we use thoughtful injection techniques and comfort measures to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

  • Hylenex® is used to break down hyaluronic acid, the material found in HA-based fillers. Your provider will carefully assess the area and tailor treatment to your specific needs.

  • Yes. Once the area has healed and your provider is confident that the filler has been adequately dissolved, you may be able to have filler replaced. Timing varies from person to person, so your VIVO provider will recommend when it is appropriate to consider reinjection.
